Caribbean Medical Mission

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

The Caribbean Medical Mission is a non-profit, international, professional and cultural medical program dedicated to providing health care to the people of the Caribbean Islands. The organization has been coming to Jamaica for many years now, each time servicing more communities. The Caribbean Medical Mission and Negril Education Environment Trust have been in collaboration in their effort to service the needs of the people in Jamaica.

The mission has been coming to Jamaica for several years now offering free medical service and free medicine to communities all around Jamaica. This year they serviced communities starting from Kingston and ending in Westmoreland. St. Pauls Primary School in Westmoreland was one of the beneficiaries of services from both the Mission and N.E.E.T. Students, parents, and teachers received free medical checkup, free medicine, glasses (where necessary), and free tooth brushes (donated by supporters).

Buy a Brick Build a Library

Friday, February 15th, 2008

N.E.E.T. has once again begun it’s “buy a brick” campaign. With yet another undertaking of building at least one library/resource center per year until every needy school in Jamaica has one. The campaign actually began in 2006 as part of spring break event called Soul Rebellion. This cultural exchange event in which N.E.E.T. is closely affiliated with, is designed to give College students from overseas a chance to interact with the people and children of Jamaica. Visitors to Jamaica can purchase a block for as little as $1.00 USD and then paint their name on the blocks. The campaign will now be year long instead of just during Soul Rebellion. The support of guests and visitors to Jamaica has been tremendous and goes along way in helping to achieve our goals. Thanks to all who have donated.

N.E.E.T. Builds Library / Resource Center

Friday, February 15th, 2008

With computers donated to the school by various organizations and books and blocks donated to N.E.E.T. by supporters all over the world including spring breakers from the soul rebellion event, St. Paul’s Primary today opens its resource center. The Bible, The National Anthem, the National Pledge and the National Motto have been loaded on to these computers and N.E.E.T. will continue to load these programs/documents on every computer distributed by N.E.E.T.

The principal, Mr. Brown, says the resource center will be open to the community not just the students who attend the school. The opening of the resource center marks a significant milestone in the goals of the school. The school still currently uses pit toilets. Blocks and funds are being put into place to build proper bathrooms for the school. N.E.E.T. will continue to lend it’s support to this school as well as others in similar conditions. N.E.E.T. also now plans on building at least one library per year for schools in need.
