Symphony Orchestra

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

On July 1st, 2008, N.E.E.T., in collaboration with Sheik Thompson (Mayor of Haringey, London), Peter Desmond, and Mannings High School, was able to accomplish another successful event. A ground breaking performance was conducted by a 120 piece symphony orchestra led by Peter Desmond in Norman Manley Beach Park in Negril Jamaica. The orchestra was composed of mainly teenagers ranging in age from 10 to 18 from Haringey London. The group also performed at other locations including, Kool Runnings Water Park, Grange Hill High school, and Mannings High School. During this cultural exchange these students had a chance to truly experience the beauty of Jamaica.

The Mayor of Haringey London who was recently inducted into the Jamaica Jazz Hall of Fame accompanied the group as communication with him was a large part of what made this event possible.

It is our hope that Jamaica can return the favor in the future by sending some of its own overseas to London to showcase the culture of the people of Jamaica.
