N.E.E.T.s annual charity cruise will take place this year on June 13th aboard the Nautical Empress, departing at 7:30 p.m. from the Nautical Mile in Freeport, New York. Each year Winston Wellington, the organizations founder and chairman, celebrates his birthday & Father’s Day with a charity fundraising cruise for N.E.E.T. Contributions generated by this event go toward helping the organization in all its endeavors. Thanks to all supporters of this and other events each year we are able to continue to ship books and computers from New York to Jamaica and are really making an impact on the education of youngsters. This all inclusive food and drink event is a great way to celebrate Father’s Day while giving back to a great cause.

THIS TUESDAY, MARCH 17, the US-based BET will be on location at Travellers Beach Resort to film “Culture Day” and “Buy a Brick Campaign’ starting at 1 p.m.
These events replace the weekly “Soul Rebellion”, a collaborative effort between Negril Education Environment Trust (N.E.E.T.) in collaboration with Travellers Beach Resort, put on weekly during Spring Break for “Spring Breakers”, each Tuesday at 1:00 p.m..
“Soul Rebellion”, “Culture Day” and “Buy a Brick Campaign” are a combined initiative to raise funds for building libraries throughout the parish.
“Culture Day” and “Buy a Brick Campaign” are also being put on by Negril Education Environment Trust (N.E.E.T..) in collaboration with Travellers Beach Resort.
At 1 p.m. on Tuesday, students from schools within the parish will showcase more cultural items, as well as render items in drama and song than is usually done at “Soul Rebellion”. Pieces such as Roast Breadfruit will be performed, while even the Spring Breakers will get a chance to dance with Jonkoonu characters.
In return, Spring Breakers will participate in the “Buy A Brick Campaign” by donating a brick, towards the building of the libraries. On the bricks, the names of the donors will be written.
N.E.E.T has been committed to empowering young minds through education. So far there are courses in computer literacy being offered at no cost to police personnel, civilians, and students alike. Four libraries are already completed as well as thousands of books donated throughout local schools.
The Balaclava Primary School library in St. Elizabeth is the current project and is scheduled for completion by April 8th 2009.
