NEET Meets with Minister of Education

August 5th, 2009

On Thursday July 30th 2009 the Negril Education Environment Trust (N.E.E.T) was successful in receiving the attention of the Minister of Education regarding our Virtual Library concept, a brain child of Mr. Wayne Deleon.

At approximately 5:00 pm the Minister of Education; Hon Andrew Holness was escorted to Travellers Beach Resort accompanied by Hon. Dr. Wykeham McNeil; member of parliament for Western Westmoreland, where the presentation took place. Although not all of the needs for the project could be met by the Ministry of Education, the Minister was very receptive to the ideas and plans that were laid out even stating that once the project is complete they will use it as one of their tools for education.

The next phase of the project will be networking the libraries that we are building in an effort to deliver material to the schools from a centralized database of educational information. We’ll be able to provide teachers with the latest in educational software and ensure that international standards of educational material are being met.

N.E.E.T.s annual charity cruise will take place this year on June 13th aboard the Nautical Empress, departing at 7:30 p.m. from the Nautical Mile in Freeport, New York. Each year Winston Wellington, the organizations founder and chairman, celebrates his birthday & Father’s Day with a charity fundraising cruise for N.E.E.T. Contributions generated by this event go toward helping the organization in all its endeavors. Thanks to all supporters of this and other events each year we are able to continue to ship books and computers from New York to Jamaica and are really making an impact on the education of youngsters. This all inclusive food and drink event is a great way to celebrate Father’s Day while giving back to a great cause.
